FRIGHTLINER (This not a typographical error)

 

This is what you get if you leave the Americans to design a diesel loco without the benefit of Swindon’s drawing office!!! (See “Swindon’s Last Laugh”) 

 

Above is apparently the first picture of Freightliners new class 68xxx or 70xxx, (depending on which magazine you read, and when they make up their minds), which is nearly on its way from GE to the UK.     

 

What do you think of it?   

 

Personally, I feel that as Prince Charles is heavily into the design of “carbuncles”, we should get him to issue an immediate Royal Decree that the directors of Freightliner should be sent to The Tower for authorising the

construction of such an abomination, while the locos should be seized at their port of arrival and immediately pushed into the sea in revenge for the “Boston Tea-party”.

 

                                                   They are hideous!

 

What have we done to Freightliner to deserve this? Who at Freightliner approved this; are they blind thick or

hoping win the Turner prize. Come to think of it an unmade bed or a pile of bricks DO look better than this. I suppose we should have had an inkling after the arrival of the Cl.67xxx which could described as hardly inspired, and more resembled a box with cheap and cheerful and simple plasticine end stuck on it.

 

Please come back all you wonderful British designers; even the ill-famed “Wonderloaf” had more and better character than the last efforts seen!!!              MPT
