Q How long will it take?

A It takes me roughly 4 weeks to complete the portrait from receipt of your photographs, depending on current workload. This is because I have to fit my passion for drawing around my full-time job as a Technical Illustrator. To have it framed would take approximately 2 - 4 weeks on top of that (depending on the framing company's workload at the time)!

Q What if I’m not happy with the portrait?

A No one has been unhappy with a portrait yet, but if you were, then you wouldn’t pay me any money. I would just send your photographs back. I would keep the portrait for my folio of work.

Q Can I frame it myself?

A Of course, but bear in mind that a frame can either enhance or ruin the final portrait.
A good choice of frame will add class and stature to the image.

Q Can I use a digital camera image?

A You can use a digital image as long as the resolution is of high enough quality for me to see detail in the animal. Cameras normally have a couple of settings for you to save either in 'High Quality' or 'Super High Quality'. Try to save your pictures on the highest possible resolution.

Q Why do you draw in pencils?

A I find that these work well in representing hair on the animal. The pencil strokes add realism and depth to the portrait. I finish it off with a fixative to protect the final image, so it is permanent.

Q What are the frame mounts for?

A The mount is put around the portrait to stop it rubbing on the glass when it is framed.
It is the professional way of finishing a portrait in this medium.

Q Why do they cost this much?

A All my pictures take me more than 10 hours and some have even taken more than 20 hours because of the detail that I try to capture of each pet or animal. Each portrait is unique and special to you, so I don't want to lose the quality by rushing or 'making do' (my reputation and professionalism is at stake). So the application of my skills is not that costly per hour, when you look at it this way. You also end up with an adorable picture to treasure for a long time in the future.

If you think about it, most 'Call-Out Services' will charge a costly fixed fee BEFORE they even get to your home, AND you don't get an adorable picture at the end!
