Meeting programme for 2004

Meetings are held across Northern Ireland and are
family orientated, with children welcome.

There will be a produce show held in september.

Most meetings are on a Saturday and usually start at 2:30pm

2.30pm Saturday 21st February 2004: All about hedges
At Dendron Lodge, Clandeboye Estate, Bangor
The Conservation Volunteers will give us an afternoon workshop on local hedging plants and how to use them. There will be a workshop charge of £3 per person to help towards costs.

2.30pm Saturday 20th March 2004 : Garden Visit/ Pruning apple Trees/ At Derryboye, Crossgar
A visit to Eileen and Michael Robinson’s garden to see their woodland and garden. Hopefully Geoff Gardiner will be on hand to give a demonstration of how to prune an old apple tree. We will also be launching and giving out details of our first organic produce show, to be held in September.

2.30pm Saturday 17th April 2004 : Garden visit - Near Saintfield
A visit to a
14 acre country garden with shrubs, trees, holly wood, birch grove, bluebells etc. Views over Co. Down. There will be a charge of £1.50 per person. (NIOGS is subsidising members by £1.00 as the full charge is £2.50)

2.30pm Saturday 22nd May 2004: Garden Visit – Kearney
At Newcastle Road, Kearney, Portaferry
Gregg Sachno has been developing his new garden in a “traditional” way. He has a mixed garden with vegetables, polytunnel, cottage garden, hens and fruit orchard with some unusual varieties. A lot to see. The National Trust’s Kearney property is just across the road.

2.30pm Saturday 19th June 2004:

Change of event** Greenmount Show, Antrim

The Greenmount show is on the 19th and 20th June. NIOGS will meet on 19th at 2-30pm in the walled garden for a sociable get together (bring a picnic afternoon tea if you'd like to). Greenmount Show is a fabulous family day out with lots to see and buy (plants, crafts etc).

2.30pm Saturday 31st July 2004: Garden Visit – Ballyclare
At Templepatrick Road, Ballyclare
A visit to Sandra and Peter Munro’s garden. 1.5 acres plus 10 year old tree plantation. 2 glasshouses, vegetable garden and herbaceous borders.

2.30pm Saturday 21st August 2004: Garden Visit – The Secret Garden
The walled garden, Hillsborough
A garden run by a charity to provide training for people with mental disabilities. Includes alarge vegetable market garden – with aims to run a box scheme. There will be an entrance charge of £3 per person, payable on the day.

2.30pm Saturday 18th September 2004: Organic Produce Show/ AGM
Venue to be confirmed
Our first produce show with just a few classes to keep it fun. To make it a success we need as many people as possible to take part, so do join in. There will be a short AGM to run through the formalities
