Thursday 19 November 2009 Port Talbot Kick Off 7.40pm

Northern Ireland were very unfortunate to lose 2-0 to Wales in the Sky Sports Victory Shield at Port Talbot despite dominating for most of the game.

With the advantage of a strong wind the visitors made a promising start.  On 10 minutes a cross by David Morgan was met by Shay McCartan but the striker's shot was blocked and the ball scrambled away.

Against the run of play Wales went in front after 15 minutes.  A cross from the left deflected off two Northern Ireland defenders and fell into the path of Jack Simmons who netted with a low left foot drive into the corner of the net.

Two minutes later and Joshua Barton missed a great opportunity when he ran onto a long clearance by Gareth Deane but failed to control the ball and the opening was lost.

Paul George replaced the injured Luke Conlan after 22 minutes and made an immediate impact as a free kick from the right was scrambled away by the Welsh defence.

After the break Northern Ireland continued to push forward and George and Barton went close with good efforts.  David Morgan showed up well when he picked up the ball inside his own half and ran 60 yards but ballooned his shot high over the bar.

In an attempt to get the equaliser Northern Ireland manager Dessie Curry pushed Luke McCullough up front but in the final minute Wales broke away after a Northern Ireland corner was cleared and Simmons volleyed home his second goal with a shot which went in off the underside of the bar.
