The Northern Ireland Schools Under 18 team got their Centenary Shield campaign back on track with a 1-0 victory over the Republic of Ireland at Tullamore.
The only goal came after 15 minutes and was a superb individual effort by Scott McCullough. The full-back embarked on a run out of defence which ended with a terrific low drive from 25 yards that rifled across goalkeeper Marty McGinty and into the bottom corner.
Assisted by a strong wind the Republic piled on the pressure in the second half but came up against a resolute Northern Ireland defence in which centre back Josh Robinson was outstanding while Michael Smith almost put the issue beyond doubt with 15 minutes remaining but saw his header rebound off the crossbar
