        5th May (Saturday) - Moth Recording - Chaddesley Wood

        5th May (Saturday) - Butterfly Walk - Middletown Hill

Meet at 2.00pm outside the Breidden public house on the A458 in Middletown - SJ301124.
Leader - Simon Spencer.

Pearl-bordered Fritillary only flies in sunny weather and they are almost impossible to see in cold cloudy conditions. The walks will only be cancelled if the weather is very poor but you are unlikely to see them. The flight season can vary considerably from year to year so it is difficult to guarantee seeing them on a particular date. Please phone 01691 648339 beforehand if you are coming. The ground is uneven and steep. Stout walking boots and suitable clothing are essential. Please do not bring dogs. Each event will involve about an hours walk.

Meet at 11:00 am at Marquis Drive visitor centre, but moving on so park on the road - SK003153.
Visitor centre is signed off the Penkridge to Rugeley road.

        18th May (Friday) - Butterfly Walk - Y Frochas Common

Meet at 2.00pm outside the Raven public house on the A458 at the western edge of Welshpool and travel to this new CCW reserve between Guilsfield and Cyfronydd near the Dingle Nurseries - SJ194083.

A joint walk with the Oswestry branch of Shropshire Wildlife Trust.
Target species are Grizzled Skipper, Dingy Skipper, Green Hairstreak and Wall.
Meeting point is the reserve car park.

Meet 10:00 am at Three Parishes Hall, Grafton Flyford (next to the church). Just off the A422 Worcester to Stratford road.
Search for Brown Hairstreak and other caterpillars.

        22nd May (Tuesday) - Dingy Skipper ecology and habitat assessment training day

This event is aimed at encouraging more volunteers to survey for this species in the
Stoke-on-Trent area.
It will also enable participants to undertake habitat assessment and timed counts under BC's
standard methodology. The technique enables effective monitoring of changes in key features
of the habitat and how they affect butterfly numbers.
