Go by canoe

www.norfolksbest.co.uk

One of the best ways of getting silently up close to the wildlife of The Broads is to go by canoe. You can get into the nooks and crannies that the hire cruisers and sailing craft can’t reach by renting a Canadian-style canoe and using gentle paddle power.

The Broads Authority has initiated the new scheme in which five centres are involved. It fits in with the Authority’s aim to increase tourism in a way that doesn’t harm the environment.

Hire of the stable three-seater canoes costs £22 a day or £12 for half a day. The price includes lifejackets, waterproof rucksacks and advice on routes.

The centres currently offering canoes are:

City Boats, The Yacht Station, Riverside Road, Norwich; tel: 01603 701701.

Bank Boats, Staitheside, Wayford Bridge, Smallburgh, Norwich NR12 0LN; tel: 01692 582457.

Norfolk School of Canoeing, Mill Road, Horstead, Norwich NR12 7AT; tel: 01603 737456.

Outney Meadow Caravan Park, Bungay, Suffolk NR35 1HG; tel: 01986 892338.
