Holkham Bay is superb

It’s easy to see why North Norfolk has maintained a leading position since the heyday of Victorian seaside resorts. It really is a region with something for everyone.

Imagine – more than 40 miles of stunning coastline, with many Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and award-winning beaches renowned for their cleanliness and facilities. Imagine a string of small coastal towns and villages which have retained not only the appearance but also the ambience of olden times. Relaxed places where strangers greet each other in the street.

The major resort towns are Cromer, Sheringham, Mundesley and Wells-next-the-Sea, each offering the traditional pleasures of a seaside holiday. Those who prefer the truly quiet life – a life centred on sailing, walking and birdwatching, sketching, painting or photography – will probably prefer to head for the coastal villages of Cley-next-the Sea, Blakeney, Morston and Stiffkey.

Moated Mannington Hall

There are attractive places inland, too – market towns, such as North Walsham, Aylsham, Holt and Fakenham, and stately homes steeped in history – to say nothing of mile upon rolling mile of gorgeous countryside dotted with woodland and laced with a network of winding lanes. Blickling Hall, Wolterton Park and Mannington Gardens are all open to the public. And you can stroll the streets of medieval Walsingham, a place of pilgrimage for close on a thousand years.
