St Agnes Church, North Reddish

An Inclusive Church

Picture of St Agnes ChurchAbout St Agnes Church

St Agnes Church first opened its doors in 1908, and was consecrated in December of that year. Since then, many individuals and families have passed through our doors, each one welcomed into our family.

One of the many strengths and peculiarities of the Church of England is its rich diversity, shaped firstly by its local faith community and secondly by the background and faith journey of its individual ministers throughout its history.

Centenary year celebrations June 08 - June 09

The church is currently planning a wide and varied range of celebrations to acknowledge our 100 years. Come back and revisit the NEWS section for further details as the centenary year unfolds.

St Agnes - the Original 304/5 AD

St Agnes Church has been named after a young girl who was martyred for her faith in about 304 - 305 at the age of 12 years. A present day interpretation on her life story was that Agnes was a victim of the most horrendous abuse.

For St Agnes’s Day on 21st January each year, (or the nearest Sunday to the 21st)  we acknowledge the part we play in abusing others with and without intention. The way in which we try to control others and we remember all victims of abuse.

Why come to St Agnes Church?

There are many reasons to visit St Agnes Church.

The community at St Agnes is made up of diverse group of people. In a different context, these people would probably not be found in the same company as each other - but a common faith in the God who dwells within each one of us brings us together.

Making known the significance of God
for this and every generation

We are trying to discover how to really
Love the world as God loves it,
following the way of Jesus,
sensitive to the winds of the Spirit,
seeking to discern the Word of God in the biblical tradition,
the Movement of God,
in the context of our time, place and culture.

St Agnes Faith Community
is an alternative to church as usual

St Agnes Faith Community
finds its window to God
in the face of Jesus
while affirming the quest and insight of other faiths;
opening ourselves in dialogue
and mutual enrichment
in our pluralistic world

Our search takes us to
The God of The Beginning,
The God of The End,
The God with us in The Meantime...
this in-between time.

We live together in the awe of worship
in the Presence of the Mystery of God

Whose inclusive grace moves us to embrace all
with unconditional love and gracious acceptance,
irrespective of race, gender, economic status,
age or sexual orientation.
