The Bell, Aldworth (3.0m)
A Downland walk: Go down the lane in front of The
Bell, pass the church, and opposite the grass triangle where it meets the B4009 take the hedged-in bridleway for about 400yds
until you meet a road. Turn right, and soon right again on a field path with posh new gates back towards the
church. On reaching a track by farm buildings, turn left and follow it till it reaches the road from Aldworth towards the Downs,
when turn left. At Starveall, turn right along a field path for 400yds, and right again when meeting a track towards Aldworth.
When this kinks right, go through the farm gate on the left, and follow the field path round Bower Farm. Go through another farm
gate onto a track and turn right for some 500yds. Then turn right onto a field path that takes you back to the garden of the Bell.

About 10 miles from Newbury up the B4009 towards Streatley.
The Bell is probably the finest old-style pub in the district.
It serves proper draught beer, including West Berks and Arkells and quite often has
mild. Excellent filled-rolls at a very reasonable price. Justifiably, it collects CAMRA awards year
by year as the best real ale pub in Berkshire.
