The Travellers Friend Crookham Common (2.8m)

No-usable-website About five miles from Newbury via Bury's Bank Road. Turn R at the end and keep SO until you arrive.
A fairly cheap and cheerful pub that lies next to a residential caravan park. However it has recently had quite a nice conservatory built. Good value sandwiches, snack and bar meals. Beer usually OK.

Walk a few yds torwards Newbury and take the FP sign on the L to one side of a house, and follow the track downhill into the Enborne valley. The FP goes behind the derelict red brick cottage, and then forward across open fields, nearing the river. Cross the new footbridge, then bear L through a hedge and across a small field into a wood. The path rises through the wood, and comes out on the Headley-Ashford Hill road near the top of Goose Hill. Turn L for 500 yds then L again onto a marked FP that goes forward for 700 yds before kinking to the R to meet the Bailey bridge recrossing the Enborne. Over the bridge, follow the metalled lane quite steeply uphill to the main road, where turn L for the pub in 500 yds.
