The White Hart, Stoke (4.1m)

(No-usable-website) About ten miles from Newbury, take the A343 towards Andover. Turn left in Hurstbourne Tarrant for 2 miles to Stoke, and turn left in the village.
A village pub that serves excellent and reasonably priced sandwiches and home cooked bar meals. It has decent draught beer, often from the Ramsbury Brewery.

Go out of the car park and turn L to cross the main road for the lane on the other side, turning R again in 150yds. This lane shortly kinks to the L, and then there is a long straight rising section that comes out in an open field. Go slightly R to cross this to a wood, and go forward 100yds or so till you come to a crossing track. Turn L out of the wood, and follow the path through a succession of stiles and gates along the ridge of the hill on the S side of the Bourne valley. At Stokehill Farm, now a swanky residence, take the gate on the L and go down the lane to a T junction where go R and immediately L. Now follow the FP forward for nearly a mile losing height and then going down a steepish path onto a lane. Cross this and go down the field to a FP along the rear of some houses. Take one of the stiles on the L to reach the road near an old chapel. Pass this on your L, then turn L into Gang Bridge Lane, which follow for nearly a mile, passing Gang Bridge House and ignoring a bridge back over the river. Take the L fork in the lane, and in another 300yds, the stile on the L. A path leads across the fields back into the village of Stoke, where turn R for the pub.
