 | About four miles from Newbury, take the A338 South, and at The Swan roundabout
go right for the A34 but take the first turn off at the next roundabout SP Burghclere. In half a mile, turn L
at a T junction and the pub is in a few yards on the R hand side. A village pub that serves excellent and reasonably priced sandwiches and home cooked bar meals in the bar or in the conservatory. It has decent draught beer, usually Arkells. |
Turn L out of the pub, take the first lane to the L, and
and in 150yds turn R onto a FP. This bears L then R and crosses another FP. It then turns L again then R, passes
through a small wood and continues forward to cross the disused and overgrown railway embankment, coming out
onto a metalled lane about 250yds later. Go R and immediately L up the farm drive, through the yard and follow
the FP forward with a wood on the RH side. At the end of the wood, the FP makes a right angle turn to the R
and comes out in 300yds on the drive of Earlstone Manor. Enter the grounds and take the FP on the L and
follow this across fields between woods for some 1200yds to Woodside Farm and a metalled lane. Turn L for 600yds, then L onto a track.
In a little over a mile, this comes out by The Clere School. Take the lane to the R of the school to another
road, where go L then sharp R up a lane. At a T junction in 500yds, turn L and follow this lane for
1000yds till it comes out on a road. Turn R for 250yds to the pub.
