 | About eighteen miles from Newbury. Take the A343 Andover Road to Hurstbourne Tarrant, turn right
for four miles through Vernham Dean and bear left up the hill to Conholt, where left again for two miles
then first right for Lower Chute. A decent pub cum restaurant in the heart of the country. It serves decent bar meals while the restaurant is also available. At least three proper draught beers on tap. |
Turn R out of the pub and follow the lane for 500yds,
turn L then fork R in 150yds. In a further 250yds take a FP on the L that crosses fields and comes out on
a lane just to the R of the church. Take the lane in front and leave it when it bends L for a FP on the R.
This crosses a field, then turns to the R and descends into a valley, entering Limmer Copse (bluebells in
season) at a stile. Follow the woodland path uphill, passing Limmer Pond and bearing R to come out on a
lane – Chute Causeway. Turn R and follow this pleasant lane along the ridge for nearly 2 miles, turning R
at a crossroads and immediately R onto the FP down through Conholt Park. At the bottom emerge onto a track
that shortly joins a lane, which follow ahead till you reach the pub.
