Each
Handler will be informed about the requirement for them to carry a "poop
scoop" and have their dog wearing a Collar and ID tag.
The
merits of various types of collars and leads will be discussed.
Handlers will gain the ability to remove/replace their dogs collar and
lead without resistance from the dog.
Handlers will learn how to control their dogs when walking on the lead
while passing other people & dogs.
Handlers will be instructed how to control their dogs when walking
through a door/gate.
Dogs
(and their Handlers) will become able to behave in controlled manner
when meeting another dog (on lead) and during their handlers
conversation.
Handlers will demonstrate the ability to groom their dogs and show their
dogs acceptance of the grooming.
The
methods of carrying out a health examination, including mouth, teeth,
throat, eyes, ears & feet will be demonstrated. The dog will be required
to allow this examination by someone other than the handler, i.e. The
Vet.
Handlers will be instructed how to release their dog from the lead, play
with them and when required, recall them and attach the lead.
The
dogs will be divided into classes Puppies (up to 12
months old), Juniors (skill level not age) & Seniors (skill level).
Dogs
will progress through the classes as their ability grows and as they do
the standard required will be raised especially regards heelwork,
recalls & stays.
The
Dog and Handler team will progress through the class levels but may also
be awarded the “Sir Bounce Trophy” for high achievement.
The
Sir Bounce Trophy is named after a Great Dane who, along with his owner
Carol, came to the classes when they first started. Sir Bounce was
tragically removed from this world far too soon.
