Minutes of the meeting held at the Hall on 1st May 1968

Mrs J Lewis, Mr D Williams, Mr F Banfield, Mr J Harris, Mrs G Bibby, Mrs L Saunders, Mr J Evans.
First to be discussed were the windows to be puttied in the hall. Mr J Harris and Mr F Banfield volunteered to do this job.
The Youth Club hasn't yet repaired the guard for the hall fire but Mr J Evans has offered to take it to be repaired and the Youth Club will pay the bill.

Sec by Mr F Banfield. That some form of other heating stove is purchased for the hall. The best sort of stove decided by the committee was the Tortoise.
It was also decide that Bingo on Monday night will be called on to start at 8-8.15pm sharp.

There being no other business the meeting closed at 8.50pm

Sec by Mrs L Saunders that a Tortoise stove is purchased for the Hall.
The village has been entered for the Best Kept Village comps. The section entered will be from Sunnybank to Castell y Bwch.
The Chairman stated that the Magor & St Mellons council would help us out with money when we have raised enough to put our deposit on a new Hall.

3rd July 1968.As the Fete was the main topic-No Village Hall business was discussed.

(I have nearly come to the end of the Hall's first minute's book and before tackling the big book I will enter the remainder of the Fete minute book because after this the Hall and the Fete minutes were entered in one book D.W.)

The meeting opened with a discussion about the Best Kept Village competition. Mr F Banfield stated that it was a waste of time to enter, and that the hedges were not trimmed in time this year.

Sec by Mr F Banfield. That a letter to be sent to the Henllys Parish Council regarding the hedge facing Sunnybank, going from Ysgybor Newydd to Park Close, to be cut.

Sec by Mrs N Lloyd. That we pull down the fence between Springfield and the Hall. To be replaced with oak posts rylock and barbed wire. Material to be purchased by Mr A Samuel.

Sec by J Harris to hold a Poultry Whist on 21st November
120 tickets to be printed.
It was decided to have a Xmas Draw. 600 books to be printed and the prizes as follows: -
1st Bottle of whisky. 2nd sherry. 3rd basket of fruit. Various other prizes. All prizes to be donated. If none received the Hall would buy them.
The Whist Drive should be advertised in the Argus. Whist prizes to be decided next meeting. Tortoise stove has been purchased and arrangement has been made for volunteers to fix it.
Suggested by Mr F Banfield that the Youth Club should start again and Mr R Jude to be approached and see if he would look after the youth again.

Chairman talked about the reply from the Clerk of the Council regarding the Best Kept Village and cutting of the hedge opposite Sunnybank.

Mr F Banfield suggested buying bingo balls for £4 .17. 6d
