Royal Mail Sorting Office

The building of the Royal Mail Sorting Office in Mill Street.
Sadly this building is now closed and a Delivery Office had been built further down the road.
I worked in the Post Office for 41 years and 31 of those years were in Newport.
With the introduction of the Postcode and the necessity to have machines to process the mail [Coding desks & Sorting Machines] the Sorting/Delivery Office in High Street was too small and therefore this modern mechanised office was built.
It was opened in 1969.
I had the task to supervise the opening on a Saturday afternoon when, then, only the Parcel Sorting machines were in operation.
