Bereavement Benefit
A bereavement benefit is usually paid to a widow or widower whose husband
or wife died on or after 9 April 2001.
The deceased husband or wife must have paid national insurance contributions.
(
National insurance contributions made by the widow or widower do not count
towards a bereavement benefit).
The bereavement benefits are:-
Bereavement payment (A bereavement payment is
a one-off lump sum payment which can
be paid to a woman or man who has been widowed on or after 9 April 2001).
Widowed parents' allowance(Widowed parent's allowance is
a weekly benefit paid to a widow or widower with children).
Bereavement allowance (Bereavement allowance is a weekly
benefit paid to a widow or widower
for 52 weeks from the date of death of her/his husband or wife, provided
the person claiming the allowance is aged 45 or over (but is below pension
age) and meets certain other conditions)).
