Guardian’s Allowance

Guardian's allowance is a non-means-tested, non-contributory tax free benefit which is paid on top of child benefit for someone who is looking after a child or young person whose parents are dead.

It can sometimes be paid when only one parent has died, but it cannot be paid to the surviving parent.

A client does not have to be the legal guardian of a child to claim guardian's allowance

Qualifying Conditions apply.
