Statutory Paternity Pay


To be entitled to statutory paternity pay (SPP), an employee must:-
meet the requirements for statutory paternity leave (SPL)for biological fathers or adoptive fathers;

and
have weekly earnings of at least the lower earnings limit.

Statutory paternity leave (SPL)

An employee may be entitled to paid statutory paternity leave of up to two weeks for the birth or adoption of a child.

Statutory paternity leave must be taken for the purpose of caring for the child or supporting the mother or the adopter.


An employee will be able to take only one period of statutory paternity leave even if more than one child is born or being adopted.
