TREADLE LATHE

This treadle lathe has been rescued by John Llewelyn.

It appears to date from the 19th century, and originally to have been used in the 'Minty' furniture factory, in Cave Street St. Clements Oxford. When they moved to new premises at Pony Road Industrial Estate in 1966 it was given to one of their older employees, who later passed it to a friend. From its dismantling at the time of the move, it had never been re-assembled until early 2006, but all the basic pieces are still there, and only a new wooden bed and some stabilising needed to be provided. The leather belt drive having perished will also need to be replaced.
