History The side was formed in 1977 and was originally a ladies side. It became a mixed side in 2000. The name ‘Old Meg’ seems to have at least three possible origins (as with all things Morris!). Either, an eccentric character who danced in the streets of Hereford, a kind of witch-like figure who used to roam the Malvern Hills or a central fire of thirteen lit in the cornfields as part of a Wassailing ritual. Take your pick! Dances We dance the Northwest tradition of Morris. Our dances are a mix of the traditional dances of Lancashire and Cheshire and a few contemporary dances written in the Northwest style. Music Our band is made up of a selection of melodeon, fiddle, accordion, mandolin, clarinet, whistle, tuba, trombone, drum, depending on who is dancing and who is playing what. Kit The women wear red dresses and black tights. The men wear black knee breeches, red socks, white shirt and black waistcoat. We all wear black clogs and straw boaters.
