The Society exists to promote interest in and knowledge of the history of Tring and district. It aims to build up a collection of items which might otherwise be lost or destroyed, which can be conserved and retained for posterity, and has at last managed to secure premises in Tring to display material that will tell the story of the area.

The Local History Society came into existence in 1994, and has six speaker evenings per year, as well as exhibitions and displays at various events throughout the year. A number of members have also produced local publications, many of which are sold to raise money for the Society.

The Society itself has reproduced a set of the Medieval Tring Tiles that originally came from Tring Church, and it is hoped to put them back on permanent display. A Tring Pictorial Map was produced and this is being sold to raise funds for the society as are books published by Wendy Austin titled "Tring Personalities" and "More Tring Personalities"
