Hatches Matches and Dispatches.

This book published in 2007 contains almost two thousand entries of birth, marriage, and death notices recorded from older local newspapers including the Tyrone Constitiution, Omagh News, and some from Strabane Morning Post, Belfast Newsletter and Derry Journal. Tombstones of the Omey.

This book published in 1998 contains over three thousand named burial headstone inscriptions recorded from fifteen graveyards in and around Omagh covering a period from 1688-1900. Some of these graveyards are  very old and no longer in use.

The work of transcription was carried out over twenty years ago and took five years to complete. Since then continuing erosion has taken its toll and left a number of the inscriptions no longer legible so some of the records in print here may be the only surviving research source left for family historians.

There is a preface to each graveyard section in the book which gives a brief history of the church and cemetery together with a small photograph. A map reference and directions to locate the graveyard are also given.

Headstone inscriptions generally give the, name of deceased, date of death, age, and in some cases military rank or professional occupation is included.

Examples:

BOOTH

Margaret the wife of John Booth , died 19 September 1798, aged 46 years.

COLLINS

Maggie, child of John Collins, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, died 7 July 1886 aged 2 and a half years.

YOUNG

Jonathan Young, formerly Colour Sergeant, Coldstream Guard and late Colour Sergeant Royal Tyrone Fusiliers, died 29 April 1859 aged 53 years.
