Information:
The Charleston Charlies performance is a delightful pastiche of 20’s and 30’s music, in character and in costume. Oscar and the boys play upbeat, high energy songs and the odd heartfelt ballad , with a decidedly humorous spin and a driving mixture of American and British influences reflecting the unique spirit of the 20’s.
The Charleston Charlies inspiration is the music of phonographs, Broadway shows and vaudeville by Jerome Kern, Oscar Hammerstein 2nd, Gershwin , Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, performed and made famous by Al Jolson, Al Bowly, Bing Crosby, Ambrose, Paul Whiteman and the many hotel ballroom orchestras of the times.
Playing Time: We normally contract to play a maximum of 2 x 1 hour ( or 3 x 40 minutes) over a reasonable time span. We can play extra sets for a reasonable extra charge.
PA : We use a small vocal PA ( JBL EON15 – 250 Watts per side). This is fine for small to medium size functions. For larger events it may be necessary to hire a larger PA from £250.
Line up – We go out as a 4 or 5 piece band.
4 - Singer/Flugel, Piano, Double Bass, Drums
5 – adds Sax/Clarinet.
Price Guide: Starts at £550 for the 4 piece band at off peak times. (Add Sax/Clarinet @£120 plus.) Increases with distance from Manchester and on popular nights.
Stage Space: Minimum of 12’ by 10’ plus speakers at side.
Set up time: Approximately half an hour.
Public Liability: We have public liability insurance through M.U. membership.
P.A.T. Testing. Our equipment is P.A.T. Tested.
Background music: We can play background music in between sets – ipods or CD’s on request.
Personnel: The personnel may vary from the photos. The standard and flare of the musicians is always of the highest. We vary our players, keeping the music and the musicians interested and interesting. The buzz starts onstage!
