The mill is open from Easter until the end of October, on weekends and Bank Holidays.
Visitors are taken on a guided tour around the mill. Visits take approximately one hour.
If there is enough wind the mill sails will be turning.
Please note that access to the upper parts of the mill is via steep stairs, although there is easy access around the mill with glorious views of Derbyshire countryside; also a computerised presentation is available and accessible in the undercorft beneath the mill.

The windmill is owned by Derbyshire County Council, but all monies go to the Heage Windmill Society which is the charitable organisaton whose Trustees have responsibility for preservation of the mill.
