"SOLPADEINE" PRODUCT FACT-FILE :-
Solpadeine is a proprietary,Over-the-Counter, Brand of a popular Analgesic/ Painkiller Compound, presented in an effervescent Tablet form, and both widely available,and marketed in,the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
It is manufactured by "Smith-Glaxo-Kline" Pharmaceuticals,based in Brentford,West London.
Over-Count's Records indicate that this particular Product, is the No. 1 O.T.C. Product currently being Misused,by almost 73% of all Over-Count's Female Clients falling into the 21 to 71 year old Age Group,bearing in mind that at the present date,Over-Count has a Total of over 6,000 Female Clients alone, on it's Register of current "active" Clients.
Dependency to taking Solpadeine,has been reported to Over-Count,by Clients taking as little as 4 Tablets per day,over a 3 month period, up to 3 Clients who state each regulary takes up to 70-85 Tablets per day, since they first took the Product,up to 12 years ago. [These 3 Clients also have been diagnosed with chronic Liver Dysfunctions,of variable severity].
Several Reports by Clients also seem to suggest that a Physical Dependency can occur,after taking under the maximum daily recommended Dosages,for as short a Treatment Period as 7-10 Days, with a severe Psychological Dependen- cy soon following,within 15-25 Days after first taking the Product.
SOLPADEINE'S Active Constituents include :- Paracetamol - A non-narcotic Analgesic,used for mild/moderate Pain,but with no anti-inflammatory properties. Codeine Phosphate- A Narcotic, Opiate-based Analgesic,also used for mild/ moderate Pain,and also as a Cough Suppressant,and to reduce Intestinal Motility,and so treat Diarrhoea. Has a Depressant Effect on the Central Nervous System.Can be highly Addictive. Caffeine - A mild Central Nervous System Stimulant,also found in Tea,Coffee and Soft Drinks. Used in some Analgesic Compounds to promote absorption. Ingestion can sometimes cause Headaches!!
EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM USE : Tolerance occurs readily. Constipation, Headaches, Nausea, Sedation, Dizziness, Alcohol Consumption is enhanced.
EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM MISUSE : Tolerance, Physical and/or Psychological Dependency, Chronic Constipation, Headaches, Nausea, Gastritis, Liver Dysfunctions, Gastro-Intestinal Dis- orders, Ulcerative Colitis, Depression, Mood Swings, Chronic Lethargy, Restless Limbs,etc. Chronic Daily Headache Syndrome, is an effect reported by a large number of Clients.
CAUTION! If misusing over 20 Tabs/day,over prolonged period,Abrupt Withdrawal should be avoided due to Risk of Epileptiform-type Fitting. Gradual,slow Withdrawal is much preferred.
It is worth noting that Codeine,a Narcotic,is converted like Heroin in the body,to Morphine,and thus many of the Withdrawal Effects suffered by Misusers,are similar to those of Heroin. 10% of the value of Codeine, is thus converted in the brain, to pure Morphine.
