PARCHMENT CRAFT GUILD

Aims

1. To maintain high standards in parchment craft.
2. To encourage wider public interest in the craft through appropriate publicity.

Objectives

1. To hold updating seminars attended by members as determined by the Guild.
2. To hold training schemes established for the purposes of upgrading levels of teaching in various categories including special needs etc.
3. To establish a periodic newsletter and technical information sheets.
4. To establish progressive objectives for the development of the Guild.

Benefits

1. Familiarisation with and the sharing of new techniques and ideas.
2. The opportunity to develop skills and subsequently obtain higher grading.

Admission

Admission will be by work assessment, which will be done, separately, by at least two people who have achieved Graduate status or above, plus an independent Adjudicator. Assessment and adjudication will take place four times a year and entry dates will be notified to all entrants. There will be a fee payable and patterns will be supplied to the entrant to complete in their own time, in addition the annual membership fee will be payable. Returned work will be assessed in relation to:

1. Tracing
2. Embossing
3. Lace work
4. Colouring in all mediums:
(Ink, Paint, Felt tip, Oil pastels and combinations thereof)
5. Composition and balance
6. Presentation

There will be four examination levels:

1. Affiliate
2. Associate
3. Graduate
4. Fellow

Examination Entries

All examination entries will be passed anonymously to the assessors via the Registrar.

Certificates and badges will be issued to those attaining Affiliate, Associate, Graduate or Fellow and the words Affiliate, Associate, Graduate or Fellow of the Parchment Guild can be added to their work or correspondence.


Fees (All fees are subject to periodic review).

All cheques/postal orders/money orders etc are to be in Pounds (£) sterling and should be made payable to: The Parchment Craft Guild.

Annual Membership Fee.

UK Based: £10 per annum
Other EEC areas: £15 per annum
Rest of World £20 per annum
(Overseas membership will reduce to £10 per annum if members agree to electronic distribution of the newsletter)

Examination Fees. Examination fees are in addition to the cost of annual membership

The following level of fees for exam papers will apply:

1. Affiliate - £12.00
2. Associate - £12.00
3. Graduate - £12.00
4. Fellow - £12.00 (Only available to Graduate Status on upgrading)

If for whatever reason an examinee does not gain a pass mark at their chosen level they may either re-take the same exam after a minimum period of 6 months or they may apply to take an exam at a lower level, if applicable, at the next examination period. The fee for this will be £6.00.

Initial Applicants Please Note:

Once an examination paper has been issued there is no time limit for its submission, providing annual membership fees (see above) are maintained. Should a paper be superseded the original paper will remain valid for a period of at least six months from the date of notification in the newsletter; replacement papers can be obtained from the registrar free of charge.

Finance

All monies from examination/membership fees will be placed in a Trust account and will be used to pay for advertising, administration, to supplement exhibition costs and pay postage etc.

General

The ultimate aim of the Guild is to guarantee that member's work is of the highest standard that will enhance the craft and show it at its very best. It is a Guild in every sense of the word and high quality work is required to progress through the various levels to the ultimate position of FELLOW.
