ECDL is the European Computer Driving Licence.
Outside Europe it is known as the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL).
It is an internationally recognised qualification which proves your competence in using a PC.
It consists of seven modules, and you must pass a test in each module to gain the qualification.
The modules are:
Module 1 - Basic Concepts of Information Technology
This is a theory based module testing your knowledge if IT. It covers technical aspects as well as issues such as security and data protection.
Module 2 - Using The PC and Managing Files
This module tests your knowledge of the operating system (starting applications, changing settings and common commands) and file management (creating folders, moving copying and renaming files).
Module 3 - Word Processing
Using a word processing application to create documents, edit documents, format documents, insert and manipulate graphics, run a mailmerge, etc.
Module 4 - Spreadsheets
Creating a spreadsheet, performing calculations using formulae, formatting the spreadsheet, creating charts, etc
Module 5 - Databases
Creating a database, searching the database, sorting, creating relationships, etc.
Module 6 - Presentations
Creating a slideshow using graphics, animations and sound.
Module 7 - Information and Communication
Surfing the Net, bookmarking pages, searching the Net, sending and receiving emails, etc.
