Personal Info

I have worked for the MOD since Nov 97.   I am the Bay Supervisor for Tacan and Cardion SSR and am currently based at RAF Leeming.  No 1 Expeditionary Radar and Airfield Squadron (Tactical Communications Wing) was formed when RAF Sealand GRSC closed and moved to North Yorkshire alongside the A1 at RAF Leeming

I work alongside service personnel in the TacDF bay, undertaking 3rd line repairs on airfield and ship Bourne Navigational aids (Navaids), the TACAN TRN26 and the Cardion SSR.  We provide 24hrs phone support for these equipments for the Tri-services. I've been to some of the overseas sites, such as Gibraltar, Germany (RAF Bruggen and Gutersloh) and Cyprus (RAF Akrotiri) on several occasions. Spent 17 years in the Andrew and never went south of the Equator. In Nov 2002, I went to the Falklands to repair a TRN26 Tacan....All I can say is that its a long flight there and back....Good scenery though (Pictures of the trip in the link below).

In Aug 1998, we moved from Plymouth to Great Sutton, just outside Chester. We relocated again in Oct 2006 to North Yorkshire.

Before I became a MOD Civilian, I serviced Colour Laser Copiers (CLC) for Canon (South West) Ltd; I was 1 of 6 (colour only) technicians covering a region from Lands End (Cornwall) to Weston-Super-Mare (Somerset). I did a lot of business miles, which is why I now hate driving, but I’ve learnt to calm down in heavy traffic and concentrate on my own driving, getting from A to B with the least stress as possible (A little Radio 3 helps).

I served in the Royal Navy for 17 years, before coming part of the Peace Dividend, taking voluntary redundancy. My nickname Charlie, was given to me when I joined my first ship HMS Birmingham (Type 42 Destroyer), only old shipmates in the Navy call me that now. The last ship I served on was HMS Sirius (Leander Class Frigate), whose primary role was to detect submarines using its towed array sonar. I was a Weapon Engineering Artificer Senior Rating specialist in Sonar, Radar and Computers. Every ship I have ever served on has now been decommissioned, sold to other Navy's or sunk as targets.

Personal Interests

Computing

I like to build computers and upgraded them in my spare time for family members and friends.  Mainly self taught I've been over taken by my brother-in-Law, Michael in the graphics and applications department....There isn't much he doesn't know about Graphics. Thanks Mike for all your help in the past.

Golf

My handicap is a genuine 28. I've played at Woodbury Park owned by Mr Nigel Mansell (see the nice F1 cars in the foyer). The course I usually played was the China Fleet Club in Saltash, but since I've moved from Plymouth, I haven't played many games since. Most RAF Bases have a pitch and put course on the airfields, but I hardly get the time to have a round when working.
