Stainland in West Yorkshire is an ancient Saxon hill top settlement. Traditionally there was one road in and out of Stainland, today's B6112, with tracks down to Beestonley and Stainland Dene.

The Manor of Stainland was in the Doomsday Book and within the lands and feudal control of the Lords Savile of Wakefield.

With stunning views, beautiful greens and traditional old clubhouses, the golf courses in and around Stainland are a golfer’s heaven. We have picked three of the most luxurious and historic golf clubs for you to tee off at and enjoy.

Halifax Bradley Hall. Set in the idyllic valleys of the Yorkshire Pennine hills the Bradley Hall golf club has over 60 acres of verdant heathland for golf enthusiasts. This 18-hole course with first-rate greens and a variety of approaches caters to golfers of all abilities. The grade II listed clubhouse has an excellent range of facilities for members and visitors alike. Unwind after a competitive day and enjoy real ales, fine wines and delicious, freshly prepared food. The hall has a charming history and it is recorded that golf was first played on the course in July 1906 and gradually as its popularity grew, as did its size and the old house has been converted into the unique clubhouse you see to this day.

Huddersfield Golf Club. These modern, expansive courses are kept to the highest standard and at Huddersfield golf club they understand what a golfer needs for the ideal golfing experience. Greens are prepared to USGA standard and rapid drying fairways mean you can play when other golf clubs are shut. Fixby Hall dates back to the 18th century and is a splendid space available for private hire and functions.

Ryburn Golf Club. The swathes of perfectly kept green and undulating course makes for flawless golfing. This is a smaller 9-hole course but nevertheless challenging and has outstanding countryside views in every direction. The cute, ivy covered clubhouse greets each golfer with a grand bar and superb food. If you’re feeling up to it join in for one of the golfing competitions held regularly at the club. The course has been open since 1910 and future plans include a veranda for afternoon tea!
