Sixth Generation

32. Thomas SHIPLEY was born in 1814/15 in Branstone, Staffs. In 1837 he was a Shoemaker in Branstone, Staffs. In 1841 he was a Shoemaker in Branstone, Staffs. In 1851 he was a Cordwainer in Branstone, Staffs. In 1861 he was a Labourer in Branstone, Staffs. He died after 1861. In 1863 he was a Shoemaker. On the 1841 census, the family name is recorded as SHIPABLY. I have been unable to locate a baptism for Thomas, despite enlisting professional help. It seems likely that his parents were the William and Mary Shipably in the 1841 census for Branstone, although they are listed in different houses. Living with William Shipably ( age 55, Ag Lab) was a William Shipably ( age 30, Shoe Maker ). If these are the father and older brother of Thomas, the two generations will have both called their first son William and their second son Thomas. Also, the brothers William and Thomas would both be shoemakers. The marriage of a William Shipley and Mary Wood in St. Modwens in 1808 fits in with this theory. Thomas SHIPLEY and Mary Ann SHORTHOUSE were married on 27 Mar 1837 in Aston Juxta, Birmingham.
