The Pencoed Town Council consists of 13 members elected in three wards (Hendre has 6 members; Felindre has 4 members and Penprisk has 3 members - for a list of the present Councillors visit Contacts and Links). These members are serviced by the Town Clerk, Norman J. Davies, and normally meet as a council once a month (normally on the 2nd Wednesday of the month). The Clerk keeps Minutes (a record of what decisions were made) of these meetings. The meetings are chaired by the Town Mayor, Cllr. Clayton Davies, or in his absence the Deputy Mayor, Cllr. Richard Williams. At these meetings, members receive the Minutes of the Previous Meeting; Minutes of Committee Meetings; a Town Clerk's Report; A Financial Report, Items that they have agreed should be on the Agenda; an item where members can ask for items to be placed on the Agenda of a future meeting. In most Council Meetings there is usually a report from the local police at the beginning of the meeting. As well as the main monthly meeting, there are a number of Council Committees that meet at various times. These Committees are made up of some or all of the members of the Council. There are three main committees on which all Councillors can serve. The Finance Committee, which discusses general finances and considers grants. The Planning committee at which members discuss planning matters brought forward from the Bridgend County Borough Council - the Town Council only gives observations on these. Members of the Council are also Trustees of the welfare Hall and can sit by right on the Management Committee with others members from user organisations. This committee is serviced by its own officers. As well as these main committees, there are a number of smaller committees, which consist of less than the full Council. TheCoed Iestyn Project Committee, manages the woodland project to the north west of the town with members from Pencoed College, the Community Services and the Glamorgan Wildlife Trust. There is a similar committee for theMillennium Wood Project on Cefn Hirgoed, which also has members from the Coity Wallia Common Board of Conservators. There is also an Environment Committee, which looks after such items as wayside seats, flower baskets and footpaths. If the members of these committees have need for specialist advice, they have the power to co-opt members to deal with these.
