Pencoed Town Twinning Association
The Pencoed Town Twinning Committee was set up in 1983 to "promote and foster friendship and understanding between the people of Pencoed and its twin town of Waldsassen in Bavaria". Later this was expanded to take in the town of Plouzane in Brittany. A number of years later, two "daughter" social clubs were formed, the Club
Waldsassen and the Club Plouzane to provide for these links. Over the years, the activities of these clubs became so intertwined that they amalgamated in 1997 to form one social club.
Meetings of the association are held in the Pencoed Welfare Hall on the first Monday of the month except on bank holidays when they are held on the second Monday of that month. The meetings are open to anyone who wishes to attend. Social meetings are held on the third Wednesday of every month in the lounge of the Pencoed Welfare Hall, Heol-y-Groes, from 8.00pm. Again, these evenings are open to anyone wishing to attend.
Early in 1999, the renamed Town Twinning Association and the social club decided to reform as one group, which is now called the Pencoed and District Twinning Association, a name which covers more effectively the area it serves. This now includes Coychurch, Heol-y-Cyw, Brynna and Llanharan as well as Pencoed itself. There is no bar to membership. All that is asked is that all members reside in Pencoed or the area immediately neighbouring the town or they shall have an interest in any Pencoed organisation and accept the rules and constitution.
A newsletter is produced to keep members informed of its activities and to give information on the year's exchange visits.
If you would like any further information please contact Mrs Wendy McDonald on 865633 or drop into any of our meetings.
