At a meeting held on the 7th July 1965, Mr Glyn Williams, Mr Jack Ensor, Mr Stan Rees together with Mr Edgar Thomas met the Athletic Club Committee and from this meeting the Pencoed Bowling Club was formed.

Over the intervening 35 years, the club has given a great deal of pleasure, companionship and competitive bowling to many people within the Pencoed community.

The club is affiliated to the Welsh Bowling Association, the Vale of Glamorgan, the Mid Vale and Taf Ely Associations. In 1992 and 1994 the club won the Mid Vale League and gained promotion from the second to the first division in 1999. With David Eskins and Brian Armstrong winning the Mid Vale Pairs Competition and a number of members playing at county level, the future looks very good.

In April 1998 with the full support of the Pencoed Town Council, the Club entered into an agreement with the Bridgend County Borough Council to take on self-management. This has so far been very successful, with the majority of members taking an active role with the day to day running of the club.

In 1999, the club made a strong application to Sportlot to extend and improve facilities together with a "Short Mat" Indoor Bowling facility. Sadly, this application was not successful. However, this has not deterred the members, who intend to do their utmost to improve the facilities in the Bowls Pavilion.

The club is lucky in having a very strong ladies section, which is very keen, hard-working, and exceptionally good bowlers and it has to be admitted that they are very much appreciated by the gentlemen.

The Club is very fortunate to have a number of qualified coaches, who not only coach adults, but, with the full support of the Pencoed Comprehensive School, are coaching juniors to county level and providing subsidised membership for these juniors.

Members of the public are more than welcome to use the facilities at the club - at a small fee, of course - provided they wear "flat soled" shoes on the Green.

The bowling season started on the 22nd April and ends on Saturday 23rd September and will be open from 11.00am until 8.00pm Monday to Saturday and 2.00pm to 8.00pm on Sundays weather
permitting.

If there are any bowlers who have recently moved to the area, they would be more than welcome to come along to the club.
