On June 2nd The Leonard Family visited Stirling to take part in the Stirling Tri Club sprint triathlon and aquathon event. It was a large and well organised event with over 300 athletes in total. First event off was the novice triathlon, with distances of 400 metre swim, 11 kilometre bike and a 2.5 kilometre run. This was run over three heats, with the fastest swimmers, including Thomas in the third heat. Thomas managed to wangle an entry despite the event having a minimum age limit of 15. This was approached as a training race and preparation for his appearance as a Scottish squad member next week. Despite his younger, less experienced status he finished strongly, taking the 2nd position.

Next event was the sprint: 750 metre swim, 20 kilometre bike and 5 kilometre run. The start of this race was held up by the fire alarm going off in the first heat, resulting in the evacuation of the pool area and the guest appearance of two fire engines and some very bemused firemen, wondering how to make their way past over two hundred bikes to get into the pool. After restarting the event things went fairly smoothly. My cycle speed seems to be picking up slightly at long last, and I finished just inside 1 hour 15 minutes.

John and Matthew were entered in the aquathon event, which was a 200 metre swim followed by a 2 kilometre run. John had some very strong opposition in his age category but managed a very convincing 3rd in the 12-13 boys, while Matthew received a most impressive trophy as winner of the 10-11 year old boys, despite only being 9. Not bad considering that he was up at 4 am to start travelling and was car sick on the way.

It does occur to me that this site is turning into a Leonard Family website, which was not at all the original idea. Some of you must be doing some other events (I know for a fact that some of you are), so why don't you give me details so we can see someone else on here!
