| This website was originally put together for the benefit of the Friends of Petersfield Heath as their original website, but they now have a new website and rather than let this website close down, I have chosen to keep it going, but to change its emphasis to inform those who are interested about the history and archaeology of of Petersfield Heath and the area surrounding it. It is clear to anyone who cares to look at an old 1 inch Ordnance survey map of this area, that we are surrounded by ancient monuments. Within a very short distance of the Heath there are a number ofRoman villas, Roman settlements and Iron Age Hill forts in addition to the numerous Bronze Age Round barrows both here on the Heath and on the hill tops surrounding the town. Unfortunately it is an old map that you need as much archaeological information has been left off the more modern digitised maps now available. For further information, take a look at the map extracts on the map page.
