In the Preston Guardian on 30th May 1896 there is a description of the Preston Whitsuntide Celebrations. In the Church of England parade COUNCILLOR BARTON’S BAND played; in the Catholic Guild parade the band is just called BARTON’S BRASS BAND. Councillor Edward Barton was the councillor for Park Ward and in the Trade Directory for 1889 he was shown as the proprietor of a Manufacturing Confectionary Works at 21 and 22 Park Road, Preston with the works situated in the adjacent Bell Street.

In the Lancashire Daily Post for Thursday 21st  December 1899 the winners of the BARTON'S BAND LOTTERY had to apply with coupons to 2 St Mary's Street, Preston. The band appeared regularly at the Whitsuntide Walks and Co-op Field Days up to the outbreak of World War One when it may be surmised activities on the band front were suspended.
