Edward began lessons in voice and piano with his grandfather at the age of seven, and started learning the organ whilst a chorister at Ely Cathedral. During his final year there, as Head Boy, he became the first serving chorister to accompany Evensong for the Cathedral Choir.

In 1996 he won a major music scholarship to Uppingham School, where his organ tutors included Nicolas Kynaston and James Hills. During this time he was Senior Organ Scholar at the school and Organist of Wing Parish Church. He played the piano as a
soloist, and the French horn in the Symphony Orchestra and, in his final term, played an Organ Concerto with the school festival orchestra.

Edward has been chosen three times to attend the Oundle International Summer School of Young Organists, and has been awarded numerous recitals across the UK and in Holland.

From September 2001 to July 2002 Edward held the Organ Scholarship at Portsmouth Cathedral. During this time he gained his Associate of the Royal College of Organists diploma, and also enjoyed much playing both in this country and in Belgium and Austria.

In September 2002 Edward began a four-year performance and composition based course at the University of Leeds, where he was Edward Boyle Organ Scholar at the Parish Church. His duties included accompanying the choir on a regular basis, playing for local choral societies, and also giving recitals in and around Leeds. In his third year Edward studied abroad at the Strasbourg Conservatoire in France, where he was taught by Christophe Mantoux. On his return he took up the post of Organ Scholar at Wakefield Cathedral, combining it with the post at Leeds Parish Church.

Edward completed his music degree in June 2006 and began his new job as Postgraduate Organ Scholar at Ely Cathedral in the following September. His duties include being the accompanist to the then newly formed Ely Cathedral Girls’ Choir, and some work within the school. The choir have just recorded their debut CD on the Regent label. Edward is Assistant Organist Elect of Carlisle Cathedral, a position he takes up in September.

In his spare time Edward enjoys hill walking in the Lake District, and playing Golf, Squash and Snooker. His ambition is to gain his private Pilot’s Licence.
