(Geastrum corollinum)
recorded in the parish in 2005 is a scarce species with the last UK recording in 1938. It is now on the Pink List of endangered species. My images are now used for identification by the ABFG ( The Association of British Fungi Groups) throughout the UK.
Text Box: The Striated Earthstar
(Geastrum striatum)
Another uncommon species that occurs in the parish. Earthstars are related to Puffballs with a large central spore sack, when a rain droplet hits the sack a puff of microscopic spores is released through the tiny nozzle in the centre.

(Geastrum triplex)
This is the largest and most common of the Earthstars. In the foreground of the picture there are two unopened, as they ripen the outer layer splits into rays which curl back on themselves pushing the spore sack out of the ground and clear of any debris!
