Most of the downloadable packages (files, software etc.) on this site are available as 'exe' or 'zip' files. Please read the following if you have problems downloading or unzipping them or are unsure what to do.
This holds a compressed version of all the files & folders in the package. Windows ME, XP and later are able to unzip these files, but older versions of Windows need a 3rd party unzipper program such as WinZip. When you run or double-click a zip file, Windows or your unzipper program should offer you an 'extract' option, where you can specify or browse to a destination folder for the package contents. The download instructions on this web site will suggest a suitable folder.
This is a self-extracting (i.e. self un-zipping) version of the 'zip' file, which means it can unzip itself without any assistance from Windows or an unzipping program. When you run or double-click a self-extracting exe file, you will see something like this:-
The 'Unzip to folder' field is a suggested location for the contents of the package. If it is not suitable for you, change it by overwriting the field or clicking Browse and navigating to a suitable folder. e.g. in the above example, if your Program Files folder is located on the D: drive instead of the C: drive, change C: to D:
When you're happy with the folder name, click the top-right button 'Unzip'; click Close when finished. Do not click the 'Run WinZip' button as it only makes sense if you have WinZip installed on your PC, in which case you could have simply downloaded the zip file instead of the exe file.
Use the Exe file if your
PC has no unzipping capabilities. You can
run it directly from the web page to self-extract it, but as with
running any file from the internet, it is strongly recommended your
anti-virus system is using a resident scanner, i.e. one which checks
files as and when they are obeyed.
If you don't have a resident scanner, then download/save the file
first, then manually scan it with your anti-virus program before running it.
Use the Zip file if your PC is able to unzip it. As with the Exe file, you should use a resident anti-virus scanner before running it directly from the web. If not, download/save the zip file, then manually scan it before running it.
All files on this web site have been pre-scanned and are free of viruses to the best of my knowledge, but I cannot accept any responsibility; the onus is on you to protect your PC.
Please contact us if you still have problems downloading/unzipping.
