26th July - 2nd Aug 2008                         Return to index / email me

Staying at Beryl's cottage in Llanberis (Ripon House).

27th: Making the most of the last sunny day of the holiday on Newborough Sands, Anglesey.  Drier, warmer sand than Filey, but we weren't keen on the sandhoppers.

Hard at work on an irrigation project.

Success!

28th:  A 5-mile stroll round the lake (both girls walked all the way!)

The thought of an ice-cream reward kept us going for the last few hundred metres.

29th: Pete made the most of an opportunity for a long walk, bagging 7 of the Welsh 3000ers in a 19-miler.
(Snowdon - Crib Goch - Pen-y-Pass - Glyders - Y Garn - Elidir Fawr.)

Part of the ridge to Crib Goch.  Most of the way it was too rainy or too slippy to dare get the camera out, but there were some tantalising glimpses of the ridge.

Looking back up to Crib Goch from Pen-y-Pass (scroll right).

Snowdon (just poking out of the cloud) and Crib Goch, from Glyder Fach.

A rainbow over Tryfan from near Devil's Kitchen.

The view from Y Garn was stunning. (Scroll right)

Crib Goch and Snowdon.

30th:  The day started off rainy, so we looked round the NT-owned Penrhyn Castle at Bangor, built from the proceeds of the slate quarry at Llanberis.
Unfortunately photography was not allowed inside the castle.

31st:  Emily learned to swing unassisted this week.

1st Aug:  The girls were (eventually) keen on the idea of trying a walk up Snowdon (something to do with having seen the souvenir t-shirts!).
However, on the day the weather was much worse than forecast so we had to go to plan B - a waterfall walk and a train ride along the lake.

Dolbadarn Castle.  We climbed the narrow spiral staircase to the viewing 'cage' at the top.

Performing for the camera.

Some views of the cottage.

2nd:  Last day of the holiday - Emily mastered the monkey bars at the park.
