Brigitte Nielsen
Danish actress, married to Sylvester Stallone
for two years in 1980s, she launched her film career with title role in Red Sonja (1985), a
swords'n'sorcery adventure (based on comics series spin-off from Marvel's Conan), that
co-starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, star of Conan The Barbarian (1981) and Conan The
Destroyer (1984). Nielsen moved on to girlfriend roles, like Ingrid in Stallone's action thriller
Cobra (1986), and tall blonde Karla Fry, formidable leader of an armed robbery gang, in Tony
Scott's hectically paced Beverly Hills Cop 2 (1987).
But the Hollywood bigwigs had no use for her six-foot-one stature, and Neilsen was
dumped by mainstream cinema to appear in a string of low-budget genre productions, such as dull TV
movie Murder By Moonlight (1989), a whodunit set on the Moon, in which she played investigator
Maggie Bartok, and Galaxis (aka: Star Crystal; aka: Terminal Force, 1995), in which she played
laser-blaster armed space warrior Ladera.
Though she's pursued by paparazzi and rarely out of the media spotlight, Neilsen's
film and TV work remains solidly mediocre at best.
