Educated at the Purcell School of Music JESS BLATCHLEY is a singer with versatile talent. She has a unique flexibility in her style enabling her to perform in a wide variety of musical idioms including jazz, latin, musical theatre and pop. Her classical training gives her the ability to improvise in jazz with precision and accuracy, without losing the sense of freedom that the genre requires. She is a skilful scat singer and also an accurate sight reader.

With grandparents who were well known Music Hall artists (members of the famous Fred Carno troupe), and parents who worked in the theatre (her father, John, was an actor, director, teacher and also Resident Producer at the English National Opera house in London) Jess had a desire to be a performer from a young age. She has extensive musical training, firstly learning the piano and flute, then moving onto the voice. As a teenager at the prestigious Purcell School of Music, Jess began singing in the school's choir and Chamber Choir, including some solo work. She then went on to study for a music degree at Goldsmith's College, (University of London), where her solo singing expanded in many directions, including opera and jazz. On graduating Jess performed with the BBC Symphony Chorus and later began freelancing as a choral singer, working particularly in professional church choirs and touring with the Mozart Festival Chorus. She received vocal training from Helen Kucharek (a vocal teacher with a distinguished career in stage, radio and television) and Jo Thompson (vocal coach to Craig David and Jane Horrocks).

As a jazz singer Jess has worked with many musicians around the country and also abroad (including among many others Eric Gilchrist, saxophone, Nigel Fox, piano and the Lincoln Noel Trio). She has performed at numerous and varied venues and events including the Dorchester Hotel, The London Business School, Le Compagnie de Bateaux Mouches in Paris, and also more recently in Portugal.   She is also a regular guest singer with the Cabaret dance troupe "La Luce", and has worked as a performer for Music in Hospitals. For the last two years Jess has worked closely with well- known music psychologist, Costas Karageorghis in dinner/dance duo "Desafinado".  Together they held residencies at Il Pagliaccio Restaurant in Fulham, and The Grove Park pub in Chiswick.  Jess is very happy to be appearing in July 2008 at the renowned Ealing Music Festival where she will be performing with The Lincoln Noel Trio.

As well as live performance Jess is equally adept the studio. She has worked with composer/producer Greg Patmore and with Bobby Cole of Catch 22 Audio. And she has notable experience in the field of Worship and Rock Gospel music, working as a teacher, backing vocalist and a worship leader.

Currently Jess divides her time between teaching and performing.
