Alexander died on 17 January 1905 at Stronsay, Orkney, Scotland, at age 38. He perished with the Portknockie Zulu fishing boat 'Evangeline' BF 1952 that was wrecked off Stronsay during a great storm. The entire crew were lost. They were David Wood "King" (skipper), John Wood "King", Alexander Mair "Shavie", James Mair "Shanker", William Mair "Shanker", Joseph Mair "Bobbin", Alexander Mair "Bobbin" and George Findlay. His body was not recovered.2
