John Wood was born on 27 March 1871 at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.1,2 He was the son of Alexander Wood and Jane Gardiner. His family was known by the tee-name of "King". John Wood was a fisherman. He served in the crew of the Zulu fishing boat 'Evangeline' BF 1952.
He married Helen Mair at Seafield Church, Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 28 November 1895.3,1 John died on 17 January 1905 at Stronsay, Orkney, Scotland, at age 33. He perished with the Portknockie Zulu fishing boat 'Evangeline' BF 1952 that was wrecked off Stronsay during a great storm. The entire crew were lost. They were David Wood "King" (skipper), John Wood "King", Alexander Mair "Shavie", James Mair "Shanker", William Mair "Shanker", Joseph Mair "Bobbin", Alexander Mair "Bobbin" and George Findlay.1

He was buried on 21 January 1905 at Hillhead Cemetery, Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.
