William Mair was born on 15 May 1794 at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.1,2 He was baptized on 16 May 1794 at Parish of Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland.1 He was the son of William Mair and Ann Wood. His family was known by the tee-name of "Shavie". William Mair was a fisherman. He married Margaret Smith at Parish of Rathven, Banffshire, Scotland, on 19 November 1815.3,2 William died before 31 March 1851.
