     David Pirie was born on 3 July 1884 at Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.1 He was the son of Alexander Pirie and Jessie Ann Bruce. His family was known by the tee-name of "Buxer". He married Helen Mair at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 13 September 1912.1
