Alexander Mair was born on 24 September 1870 at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.1,2,3 He was the son of William Mair and Ann Falconer. His family was known by the tee-name of "Shavie". Alexander Mair was a fisherman. He married Helen Wood at Seatown, Portsoy, Banffshire, Scotland, on 30 October 1896.3 Alexander Mair was the skipper of the steam drifter 'Eglantine' BF 860. 'Steam Drifters Recalled' gives John Mair as the owner, but Alexander may have been co-owner and skipper.4 Alexander Mair died on 17 September 1927 at "Rocklyn", Barbank Street, Portsoy, Banffshire, Scotland, at age 56.3

1919 Sold to J. Mair (Shavie), Portsoy, Banffshire & others.
Requisitioned for war service 1915 to 1919, temporarily renamed GULLWING, (Pennant Number 2492), as an anti submarine net vessel fitted with a 6 pdr. anti-aircraft gun.
1937 Sold for scrap."
