     John Mair was born on 15 December 1863 at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.1,2 He was the son of William Mair and Ann Falconer. His family was known by the tee-name of "Shavie". John Mair was a fisherman. He married Ann Smith at 17 Church Street, Portsoy, Banffshire, Scotland, on 12 March 1886.2 He married Margaret Bruce at 19 Seatown, Lossiemouth, Elgin, Scotland, on 16 December 1904.2 He was the informant for William Mair's death at 56 Church Street, Portsoy, Banffshire, Scotland, on 17 July 1920.3,2 From 1919 to 1937, John Mair owned the steam drifter 'Eglantine' BF 860. From 1921 to 1945, John Mair also owned the steam drifter 'Overfall' BF 590.4,5 John Mair died on 19 May 1945 at "Park View", Barbank Street, Portsoy, Banffshire, Scotland, at age 81.2
